Pacific Heights Fog House

Soft San Francisco fog, spring light, and a quietly offbeat spirit shaped the design of this 1908 shingle-style home in Pacific Heights. Reimagined by Studio Roene for a family of four, the house balances lightness and restraint with unexpected moments of color and pattern.
The clients had two opposing instincts: one gravitated toward expressive color and graphic Josef Frank florals; the other  preferred calm and restraint. The design became a  dialogue between their sensibilities— color that feels alive and but never overwhelming; cheerful yet cerebral, and surprising in small doses.
Our concept for the color story was a spring garden seen through San Francisco’s fog—soft, moody, and ethereal hues that wash through the rooms like light silk, punctuated by bold graphic moments that give the house pulse and contrast.
